Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have revamped its bicycle patrol teams to cover tourist, residential and commercial areas in Abu Dhabi.

Bicycle patrolling aims at enhancing speedy response to ensure security and stability in the community, said a press release issued by Abu Dhabi Police on Thursday. The bicycle patrol teams will be expanded in phases to cover all designated areas.

The team will comprise two bicycles, well-equipped with tools for communication with the central operations room. They will provide the same service and assistance police patrol cars offer.

Policemen with distinctive uniform on patrol bicycles are highly trained and well-equipped. whereas other policemen wearing plainclothes as part of bicycle patrol team will conduct field investigations. Police patrol bicycles will be distributed across all areas inside Abu Dhabi Island to be accessible on emergency.

Major-General Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said the police force is keen on providing the best field practices and services to enhance security, safety and peace in the society.

He said the bicycle patrols would enhance presence of the police in the field and curb crime rates.

“They will be capable of reaching traffic accident and crime scenes promptly,” Al Rumaithi added.

Abu Dhabi Police recently launched many security initiatives and campaigns such as ‘We Are All Police’ and ‘Horse Knights’.
