Dubai: Now you can experience the healing power of ancient salt caves right here in the UAE.

The unique treatment is offered by First Salt Room (FSR) at Jumeirah Lakes Towers in Dubai.

“Inhaling salt cleanses the respiratory system and helps cure various ailments. It can bring relief to patients with cough and allergic symptoms and skin ailments like eczema. We have several such cases,” says Ahmad Al Balawi, managing director, FSR.

Salt therapy entails sitting in a room where everything from the floor to the ceiling and walls is made of natural non-iodised Himalayan salt, and inhaling the medicated salt aerosol diffused through a special machine.

A single room uses over two tonnes of salt, much of which is imported. Nearly 33gm of it is put into a generator and diffused in the air.

Relaxed atmosphere

As you step inside a ‘cave’ room, complete with a fireplace burner, you immediately feel relaxed. Soft meditative music plays in the background while soft LED lights calm your senses.

Each session lasts 40 minutes and costs Dh230.

“We ask clients what problems they are facing and recommend therapy accordingly. Two or three sessions are recommended depending on the severity of one’s condition. There are no side effects. We have had children as small as five months old and even septuagenarians,” said Al Balawi.

“The negative ions of the salt aerosol cleanse the respiratory system and eliminate toxins. You feel relaxed and breathe better. A lot of people suffer from respiratory problems in the UAE because of sand particles and this therapy is especially beneficial for them,” he added.

Salt therapy:

Salt has been used for healing purposes all over the world since ancient times. In the West, there are reports of salt being inhaled to improve breathing since the times of Hippocrates.
