Valletta: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has discussed bilateral relations with Maltese officials and possible venues to boost them in the best interests of both nations.

Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat met Shaikh Abdullah on Friday where they discussed the overall relations and co-operation and ways to develop them to further contribute towards opening new horizons of joint work.

During the meeting, Shaikh Abdullah conveyed the greetings of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the Maltese Prime Minister, and their wishes for further progress and prosperity to the people of Malta.

Shaikh Abdullah also met George Vella, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malta, and discussed with him the prospects of cooperation and ways to promote them, especially in the economic and investment and energy sectors, with the aim to benefit the two countries and their peoples. They also reviewed current regional and international developments, and exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest.

Shaikh Abdullah stressed the UAE’s keenness to enhance cooperation and relations in all areas with the Republic of Malta.

As part of his visit, Shaikh Abdullah and the accompanying delegation visited St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta.

He toured the church, deemed one of the landmarks of Valletta, and was briefed on the history of the church, its works of art, paintings and museum.

The St John Co-Cathedral, built by the Knights of St. John in 1572, is deemed a sacred place as well as a venue for cultural, heritage and educational celebrations.

Among those who also met Shaikh Abdullah was the Acting President of Malta, Dolores Cristina, with whom Shaikh Abdullah discussed the overall relations and cooperation between the UAE and Malta, and ways to develop them to further contribute towards opening

new horizons for joint work. The two sides also reviewed opportunities for partnership between the two countries in a number of sectors.

Shaikh Abdullah and the Maltese Acting President exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual concern as well as the latest regional and international developments.
