Abu Dhabi: Another 3,791 spaces across the capital will become paid parking from Monday onwards, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) announced in a statement sent today (November 9).

The parking bays are located in sectors E21, E28 and E29, said Mohammad Al Muhairi, manager of parking (Mawaqif) at the department.

Sector E21 is bordered by Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street (previously Muroor Road), Shaikh Rashin Bin Saeed Street, Dihan Street and northern internal roads. In this neighbourhood, 1,711 spaces will become paid.

Sector E28 is bound by Third Street, Dihan Street, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street and Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street. It will include 962 paid bays.

Sector E29 is surrounded by Dihan Street, Shaikha Zayed Bin Sultan Steet, Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street and other internal roads to its north. A total of 1,118 bays will be designated for paid parking here.

Al Muhairi said that the implementation of paid spaces would offer a long-term solution to concerns about parking availability, which are further exacerbated by improper parking practices. He also urged motorists not to park on bays marked yellow and grey, or to leave their cars parked in the middle of the road or at access points, near fire hydrants and at drop-off and pick-up spots.

Following the introduction of paid parking in these neighbourhoods, Mawaqif inspectors will also be on the alert to detect any violations.
