The mistress of the late Gen. Fabian Ver, top military aide of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, was able to transfer ill-gotten money from Hong Kong to Germany during the same time as the government was trying to pin down Marcos' daughter Irene M. Araneta in an alleged money-laundering heist last year.

Edna Camcam, Ver's mistress, laundered at least $500,000 from her account in Hong Kong to a German bank sometime in Feb-ruary, the Presidential Commis-sion on Good Government said Friday.

It's chair, Haydee Yorac, said it was around that time that Irene Marcos and her husband, Gregorio Araneta III, assisted by friends including Camcam, allegedly tried but failed to transfer money from the $13.2 billion 'I. Araneta' Swiss account to the Deutsche Bank in Germany.

Yorac said Camcam transferred a still undetermined amount to Germany by sending the money to a person whose identity the PCGG has refused to reveal. She also refused to disclose the name of the German bank that is now holding Camcam's assets, but said it was not the same Deutsche Bank where the Aranetas had opened an account to receive the alleged Swiss deposits.

"We don't know if this is the first time she did this, or if she has done it before or after," Yorac said. She said the PCGG has already sought the help of Hong Kong authorities concerning Camcam's account in the Chinese territory through the International Mutual Assistance on Criminal Matters.

Camcam's alleged money-laundering activities were contained in a report submitted by the German police to the joint task force of the Department of Justice and the PCGG on the $13.2 billion 'I. Araneta' account.

PCGG Commissioner Ruben Carranza Jr. said the $500,000 traced to Camcam's assets in a German bank might actually be just the 'balance' left in her account, which must have been bigger before the transfer.

Camcam was among those who were said to have met with the Araneta couple and American businessmen abroad to discuss and plan the alleged laundering of Irene's Swiss deposits to Germany.

Yorac has been on the trail of Camcam, Ver's long-time companion, in an attempt to identify and recover part of the wealth illegally acquired by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos which the PCGG believes had been entrusted to Ver. Camcam has several real estate properties in the United States and bank accounts in Hong Kong, according to investigators.
