US, Britain live in 'isolation' for Israel policy
Dubai: The British American alliance is under fire for trying to change the status quo of the Middle East to what some newspapers see as compatible with their policies.
Excerpts:
Al Watan (Oman), comment by Abdullah Hamouda:
"Participants in the conspiracy of the vicious Zionist campaign against Lebanon are mistaken when they think that they can change the status quo of the Arab region into what is compatible to them. This is because the details of the crimes committed that they themselves have endorsed have led to increased pressure ? the United States and Britain live in a state of enormous isolation because they were the only two countries to support Israeli aggression and stand against an immediate ceasefire, which is what the rest of the world is calling for."
Al Quds Al Arabi (UK-based), editorial:
"Blair headed to Washington to meet with President Bush and discuss the current situation in Lebanon. This has been described as the last chance for Blair to prove his independence and exercise his authority over the decision makers at the White House to stop the current war in Lebanon. The British people, especially the politicians and media, feel that Blair has insulted their pride when he acted like a follower and not a partner in his dealings with the US administration, and the fact that the special relationship is going in one direction only."
Addustour (Jordan), comment by George Haddad:
"What is clear from Bush and Blair's statements, who are entrenched in jealousy and embarrassment at the termination of military operations in south Lebanon, is that they have never dealt with the demands of the countries worldwide ... of having a ceasefire first. Instead, they are calling for a 72-hour ceasefire to ? lift the stack of bodies or ? to transport medical aid and food to places under siege."

'Anger on the streets is unstoppable'
I have just been to a protest in downtown Beirut against the Qana massacre this morning. The last body to be pulled out of the building, which is close to complete collapse was of an 8-year-old boy. I have to file some reports now. I will write more on this later but in the immediate moment I can tell you that the Lebanese are united with Hezbollah now than at any one point so far in this conflict. Today is a turning point. The anger on the streets is unstoppable. What really can Israel be thinking? What can Israel be thinking?
