Somali gunmen release two kidnapped aid workers

Last updated:

Nairobi: An aid agency says two of its workers who were kidnapped by Somali gunmen more than three months ago have been released.

The French aid group Medecins du Monde (Doctors of the World) says in a statement that the Japanese and Dutch citizens were released on Wednesday and have been moved to a safe location.

They were seized along the Ethiopian border in September.

Ethnic Somalis have been fighting in the Ogaden region for more than a decade, seeking greater autonomy or an independent state.
