French president Sarkozy says nuclear Iran unacceptable
Occupied Jerusalem: Visiting French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday declared support to Israel and said that a nuclear Iran is totally unacceptable.
Israel has repeatedly warned that it believes Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons.
In Monday's address, Sarkozy said Israel is not alone. He said the entire European Union is concerned about Iran's
nuclear program.
"I reiterate here in the clearest manner: As far as France is concerned, a nuclear Iran is totally unacceptable," Sarkozy declared.
"France is determined to continue to lead, along with its partners, a policy that integrates gradually intensifying sanctions with openness, in case Iran chooses to honor its international obligatons," he said.
Sarkozy has previously urged a diplomatic solution that
would prevent what he says the "catastrophe" of either an
Iranian bomb or an attack on Iran.
