Large fire hits London: 310 people evacuated

London: A fire has torn through several apartment blocks in southeast London. Police say that 310 people have been evacuated but that there are no serious injuries.

Officials say that more than 125 firefighters spent hours battling the blaze in the area of Peckham. Television footage of the early stages of the blaze showed flames shooting out from the top floors of a four-story building.

Lawmaker Harriet Harman says it is a miracle no one has died. She says the blaze was so fierce it spread to properties across the road. Police reported four hospitalizations for minor injuries.

Footage on Sky News appeared to show the fire under control Thursday morning.
