Abu Dhabi: Saudi Arabia’s Domestic Violence Centre said it was investigating a video clip posted on social media about the alleged rape of a child.

The centre said on its Twitter account, “Coordination is underway with the authorities to take the necessary measures.”

Activists on social media launched the hashtag #Save the raped_child, which has since been trending in Saudi Arabia, calling for the most severe punishment to be imposed on the perpetrator.

The centre is open 24/7 and deals with all calls in absolute confidentiality. It receives calls from women of all ages and children under 18 years old, as well as the elderly and people with disabilities.

The centre’s protection teams are trained in how to deal with the reported cases to ensure speedy intervention and protection for abused women and children.

There are 22 social protection teams across the Kingdom to receive cases and deal with them.
