Abu Dhabi: Six people were hurt when a car collided with another and overturned on the Mecca-Jeddah Huda Al Sham highway towards Jeddah, an official said.

“The crash occurred on Wednesday and left six injuries, two critical, and four moderate,” a spokesperson of the Saudi Red Crescent said.

The injured were admitted to the nearest health facility, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson called on all motorists to abide by traffic safety rules and not to exceed road speed limits.

Before this year’s Haj season, the new 85 kilometre-long Mecca-Jeddah Huda Al Sham highway was operating partly, stretching for 35 kilometres between the two cities.

It will transport pilgrims from the Pilgrims’ City at Jeddah airport to Mecca.

Although the project is not finished, many cars are using it in the morning.
