Extra supplies of Dubai author Andrew Tarnowski's memoir The Last Mazurka had to be ferried in when Magrudy's sold out of the volume at a launch party in its Jumeirah Beach Road store.
Well over 100 copies of the book, which tells the story of Tarnowski's aristocratic Polish family, were sold at the party in the newly-refurbished outlet.
Tarnowski, 66, a former Reuters correspondent, who now works as a journalism coach at Gulf News, delighted attendees with a short reading from his book before signing copies.
Isobel Abulhoul, director of Magrudy's, said the response at the event was “wonderful''.
She added: “There will be a lot of added interest in the book now — people will read it and talk about it. It's very much the sort of book that will sell through word of mouth. “It's a great story, and it's beautifully
written. It's like a real life Dr Zhivago for me.''
