Here's what you need to know about Oman's Majlis Al Shura Council elections:
- Omanis vote to elect 84 representatives to the Majlis Al Shura Council (Advisory Council) for a four-year term
- 388,683 Omanis have registered to vote for the 2007 vote
- 632 candidates, including 21 women, are contesting in 61 electoral areas
- Votes are cast at 102 polling stations
- The second election in the country's history has seen candidates campaigning openly for the first time.
- The first open elections were held in 2003
- A holday has been declared for the public and private sector employees who wish to vote
- After the last elections, the Majlis Al Shura term was extended for four years
- Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed launched the Majlis Al Shura in 1991
