Cairo: Kuwait’s Islamic authorities are working on a plan to reopen mosques while heeding health precautions against the new coronavirus, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai reported Sunday.
The mosques remain shut as part of strict restrictions in place to stop the spread of the new coronavirus in the country.
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Fahd Al Afasi directed the study of proposals related to the potential return of the faithful to mosques, Al Rai quoted a well-informed source as saying.
The proposed plan, according to the source, includes gradual reopening of mosques, with those located in the thinly populated areas to be the first. Mosques in densely populated areas including markets, clubs and industrial zones will be kept for a later stage.
Reopening the mosques will be conducted according to strict preventive mechanisms, including sterilising the sites regularly before and after prayers, according to the report.
While worshippers are still barred from them, mosques in Kuwait were allowed Sunday to pronounce the Eid takbeers via their loudspeakers.
