Manama: The US has vowed at a regional navigation gathering in Bahrain to keep pressure on Iran blamed for recent attacks in the Gulf, Bahraini newspaper Al Bilad reported on Tuesday.
Representatives from 30 countries are attending the two-day meeting officially titled the “Warsaw Process Working Group on Maritime and Aviation Security”, hosted by Bahrain in conjunction with the US and Poland.
The meeting builds on another held in Warsaw, Poland, last February.
Head of the US delegation C.S. Eliot Kang told the Manama gathering, which started Monday, that his country would continue pressure on Iran until it changes its behaviour.
Addressing the same event, Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, emphasised the importance of the meeting in view of “serious threats facing the region and the whole world,” the official Bahraini news agency BNA reported.
The minister expressed hope that the meeting will support cooperation among countries of the world to protect maritime and aviation security and “find effective ways to address the growing threats, ensuring security for the countries of the region and achieve stability of the global economy,” BNA added.
In recent months, several ships in the Gulf have come under attacks, which the US blamed on Iran. Last month, Oil Saudi installations were attacked. Washington and Riyadh blamed the attack on Iran.
