Sanctions will not affect Iran, says Mottaki

Manama: Iran's foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that new sanctions against his country will have no effect.
"Such sanctions are both illegal and immoral. They are against international law and the UN charter and will have no impact," Mottaki on Saturday told journalists.
On Friday, the Obama administration signaled its intention to push for new sanctions against Iran, warning that tough new measures are likely now.
But Mottaki said that the new move would be futile.
"The West should learn from the past. We know that there are lobbies in the US that do not want [US President Barack] Obama to implement his policy of change," he said at the Manama Dialogue, a security conference.
Mottaki said that the West and all the other countries should appreciate that Iran is part of the solution.
"US officials talk too much and therefore make more mistakes. We believe that they have gone backwards several years. On what grounds do they want to impose sanctions? Has Iran made mistakes? The West used to provide Iran with the fuel for the stations. Why don't they do it today? We can pay them money to provide fuel," he said.
