Dubai: Bahrain’s First High Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian men to life in prison after being found guilty of kidnapping, raping and detaining two women, local media reported.
In an official statement, Chief Prosecutor Dr Ali Al Shuwaikh said that the defendants kidnapped the victims from their place of residence, transported them and took them to an apartment, where they were held.
Dr Al Shuwaikh added that the defendants forced the victims to have sexual intercourse with them after threatening them and taking their mobile phones to prevent them from calling for help.
“One of the victims stood at the window and was able to attract the attention of a passer-by, who went to the apartment and knocked the door. One of the defendants opened the door, at the same time, the victim managed to quickly escape the apartment, after she was beaten several times by the defendants,” the Chief Prosecutor narrated.
“She was able to inform the police with the assistance of the passer-by, and a force immediately was dispatched to the scene, rescued the victims and arrested the defendants.”
He stated that the Public Prosecution launched an investigation into the incident as soon as the case was received, where it listened to the statements of the victims and facilitated their return to their previous work.
Dr Al Shuwaikh added that the prosecution listened to the witnesses, interrogated the defendants and ordered their pretrial detention pending their referral to the criminal court for trial.
