Non-EU citizens may face immigration restrictions

Last updated:

London: A migrants rights group says a panel of British lawmakers plans to demand a cap on immigration into the United Kingdom to ease the burden of the country's rapidly growing population.

The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrant says two former ministers will launch the cross-party group on migration today, calling for a new fixed limit on the number of non-European Union citizens allowed to settle permanently in Britain.

It says former Labour Party welfare minister Frank Field and former Conservative Party armed forces minister Nicholas Soames will demand tighter restrictions on the number of non-EU citizens.
