'Al Qaida plans possible attacks on Euro 2008'

Geneva: Al Qaida plans possible attacks on the Euro 2008 football championships in Switzerland and Austria which start in June, a Swiss police spokesman was quoted as saying on
Thursday.

"The Euro 2008 tournament is a target cited by the Islamist terrorist network," federal police spokesman Juerg Buehler told Swiss daily La Liberte, highlighting messages on Islamist websites.

"We are following the situation very closely," he said.
