Egyptian guards kill African at border with Israel

El Arish: An Egyptian security official says border guards have fatally shot an African man trying to illegally cross the border into Israel.

The official says guards first fired a warning shot as the man tried to cross the barbed wire fence early Saturday. When he failed to stop, he was shot dead.

Two Ethiopians and an Eritrean were also injured in the incident and arrested
The nationality of the deceased could not be immediately verified, said the official, speaking Saturday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Hundreds of Africans seeking asylum and jobs try to reach Israel every year, often with the help of Bedouin traffickers. Egypt has killed dozens of migrants at the border, drawing criticism from rights groups.
