Comedy king to take high school test at age 82

Manila: At the age of 82, ace comedian Rodolfo Vera-Quizon, popularly known as "Dolphy," will be taking examinations this month to determine if he can be considered a person who has finished high school.

Dolphy will be among the 80,000 odd examinees who will be given tests by the Department of Education (DepEd) on February 24, under the government administered Accreditation and Equivalency (A&F) examinations, according to DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus.

Lapus, who broke the news during his radio programme, said "Dolphy has registered in Pasay [suburb] to take the A&E examination for [the] National Capital Region."

The four-and-a-half hour long A&E exam is conducted by the DepEd for individuals like Dolphy, who had not been given the opportunity to enter high school. The test measures an individual's life skills; numerical ability and functional literacy, such as reading, comprehension and communication.

Boxer

Aside from Dolphy, who has yet to take the exams, others who grabbed this opportunity to get back to school include boxer Manny Paquiao.

Paquiao, a high school undergraduate, is preparing for his high school certification exams after being certified last year by the DepEd as elementary equivalent in the formal schooling system.

Lapus praised Dolphy as well as others who had registered and wanted to take the examination.
