Philippines issues travel warning

Manila: Philippine authorities advised Filipinos on Saturday to skip or postpone travel to Myanmar, citing the escalating violence in the country.

In an interview with dzRH radio, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Claro Cristobal urged Filipinos to forego a trip to Myanmar if it is not essential.

He also said the Philippine embassy in Myanmar is taking steps to protect some 245 Filipino nationals based there.
