Karachi: The air in the city remained grim as funerals were held yesterday for the political activists who were gunned down yesterday.

Unknown gunmen ambushed an ambulance and a car which were on its way to a mortuary to claim the bodies of three brothers who were killed last week.

Three men, including the driver of the ambulance, died in yesterday morning's shooting.

The mother of the slain brothers was among those injured in the attack.

Those killed were ethnically Iranian Balochs which made the police suspect that the killings could be linked to a family feud.

Personal enmity

"It seems to be an incident of personal enmity but the police is investigation the matter and nothing concrete could be said as of now," senior police officer Asim Qaimkhani told reporters.

The bodies of the slain brothers were to be brought somewhere near the Iranian border, the police said from the Edhi morgue near Sohrab Goth, where the the remains were kept in a freezer.

Tension continue to grip some parts of the city as funeral prayers were to be offered for two workers of Sunni Tehreek, a politico-religious party, who were gunned down by unknown assailants.

Government failure

A leader of the Sunni Tehreek said the government failed to maintain law and order in the city as political workers were being killed ruthlessly almost every day and the perpetrators remain at large.

"In [the] past two weeks, six of our workers have lost their lives," Shahid Gauri, a central leader of the Sunni Tehreek said after the prayers.

Police said two men in their mid to late 20s were found dead in Baldia town yesterday morning. Another body of an unidentified person was found in Liaqatabad town.
