Security beefed up at Karachi VCD market
Karachi: Police in Karachi stepped up security at a shopping centre housing hundreds of shops selling video CDs after receiving a phone call warning of an imminent attack if the sale of X-rated movies was not curbed inside the complex.
Rainbow Centre is the country's biggest market for video cassettes and CDs and is located in the heart of Karachi. Police said an unidentified caller made a phone call to one the traders in the building, threatening to launch an attack against the building on September 27 if the warning was not acted upon.
However, police were not sure as to who could be behind the threat and whether it was a hoax.
Incidents of Islamists attacking video shops have often been reported from tribal areas.
