Poll underdogs

Karachi: Fourteen relatively unknown candidates filed their nomination papers in Karachi yesterday for the upcoming presidential elections.

Thirty-three candidates had taken forms for nomination papers, but 19 of them did not return, while two nominations were filed for Faryal Talpur, said Chaudhry Qamar-uz-Zaman, the provincial Election Commissioner.

These nominations will now be scrutinised and a final list of candidates for the October 6 elections will be issued on Monday.

Among those who filed the papers, only Faryal Talpur has some political exposure.
