Located in South Asia, Pakistan shares an eastern border with India and a northeastern border with China. Iran makes up the country's southwest border, and Afghanistan runs along its western and northern boundary. The Arabian Sea is towards the south ofthe country. The country's topography ranges from lofty mountains in the north, the Karakoram and the Himalayas, through dissected plateaus to the rich alluvial plains of Punjab, followed by the arid plateau of Balochistan and the deserts of Sindh.

Modern, well-equipped chain hotels offering good services and facilities can be found in cities and major towns. Advance booking is required for official cottages, dak bungalows and rest houses that are available in principal hill stations and health resorts.
