Nepal homes to face 16-hour power cuts

Kathmandu: Nepalese homes are being rationed to only eight hours of daily electricity because of low water levels in reservoirs that drive hydroelectric power plants.

The government owned Nepal Electricity Authority announced on Sunday that consumers would face 16 hours of power outage daily until the situation improves.

The state utility company imposed 12 hours daily power cut just last month and has now increased the blackout hours because of the worsening power crisis.

Nepal's government is planning to install expensive diesel-powered plants.

Nepal is suffering unusually low water levels this year in reservoirs that feed the country's hydroelectric plants.
