Myanmar's Suu Kyi refuses to accept food

Yangon: Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is refusing to accept food, a spokesman for her political party said on Tuesday.

Nyan Win, spokesman of Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy, said bags of food delivered to a checkpoint outside her house on Monday were never picked up.

He could not confirm whether Suu Kyi, who has been under arrest for 13 years, is on a hunger strike.

The refusal to accept the food comes days after Suu Kyi repeatedly cancelled a meeting with UN Special Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari during his six-day visit to Myanmar that ended on Saturday.

There is speculation that the Nobel Peace Prize laureate may be dissatisfied with the United Nations' failure to bring about change in Myanmar.
