Myanmar mourns cyclone dead as aid pressure grows

Yangon: Myanmar started three days of mourning on Tuesday for the 134,000 dead and missing from Cyclone Nargis.

Flags would fly at half mast until Thursday, state television reported.

Aid experts say massive foreign assistance is needed to prevent the death toll from hunger and disease soaring.

Myanmar is struggling to provide aid supplies to the 2.4 million survivors of the cyclone.

The junta has accepted foreign aid flights and allowed UN agencies such as the World Food Programme to distribute supplies.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is also set to visit on Wednesday to try to convince the generals to open up to international help. A donors' conference will be held in Yangon on May 25.
