Malaysia's low-cost airport evacuated due to fire

Last updated:

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's low-cost airport terminal has been evacuated and flights delayed after a fire broke out in a duty free shop.

Airport fire chief Jasni Ali said the fire on Friday caused thick smoke at the terminal and forced the evacuation of all passengers and airport staff.

He says shop staff managed to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher before two fire trucks arrived.

He said there were no injuries and the cause of the fire has not been determined.

An official with budget carrier AirAsia says flights have been delayed until further notice. AirAsia is the airport's anchor tenant.

The official declined to be named because an official statement was to be issued later.
