Reality star Jade Goody quits Indian 'Bigg Boss' over cancer scare
Mumbai: UK reality star Jade Goody has quit the Indian version of ‘Big Brother' following a cancer scare, officials said on Tuesday.
Goody received preliminary test results on Monday which indicate she may be suffering from a form of cancer.
She heard the news while she was being filmed in the confession room of "Bigg Boss," and immediately made plans to return home, said Sonia Huria of Colors, the Indian channel broadcasting the show.
The episode where Goody learned of her test results was to be aired Tuesday night, Huria said.
Goody became a tabloid star after feuding with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and allegedly making racist comments on the British show "Celebrity Big Brother."
Shetty, who is hosting "Big Boss," an Indian version of "Celebrity Big Brother," sent her condolences to Goody and her family.
"I was really sad when I heard the news," Shetty wrote in a text message to The Associated Press. "It's a tough time for her and I hope she is able to cope with this pain."
Goody was participating in "Big Boss Season 2," which was being filmed in Mumbai, "to dispel various perceptions that exist in people's mind about her," according to a statement Colors issued Tuesday.
"Jade has been very brave in the face of such a difficult situation and we are extending all possible support that she requires at this stage," said Deepak Dhar of Endemol India, the producer of the show.
The debut of the show, which aired Sunday night, was a hit, according to media reports.
