Hyderabad: Income Tax authorities have raided Telangana Rashtra Samiti candidate from Kodangal in Mahbubnagar district P Narendar Reddy and seized unaccounted cash of Rs5 million.
The candidate was the brother of state minister P Mahinder Reddy and was pitted against the state Congress working president A Revanth Reddy.
State Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar confirmed the raid by the IT department and said that the IT officials have submitted a report to the Election Commission in a sealed cover on the basis of the raid. During the raid the expenditure records of the candidate were also seized.
IT officials also raided the office of TRS candidate from Parakal constituency C Dharma Reddy but no cash was recovered, sources said.
The seizure of cash in searches in the run up to the state assembly elections in Telangana has broken all the records. The total seizure of cash and the liquor in Telangana has crossed Rs1,000 million. An official press release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said that Rs870.89 million cash and illegal liquor worth Rs80.86 million was seized in search operations at various places since the start of the election process was started in the state.
They have also seized gold and silver items and tobacco products worth Rs70.75 million the press released added.
