Dubai: Indian politician and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was mocked on social media after he claimed that Google Maps could be used to find further evidence in the death of gangster Vikas Dubey.
In an interview with an Indian news website, Tuesday, Yadav said that the government should use technology, and check Google Maps to see how the vehicle turned turtle.
According to earlier reports about the gangster's police encounter, cops had said that Dubey was shot and died of his injuries while trying to escape from the vehicle that was transporting him, after it met with an accident.
Twitter users had a field day sharing memes, mocking Yadav’s claims. In fact, he even went on to add that the investigation needs to be done quickly, or the data on Google Maps will disappear.
Tweeps wondered if Yadav had confused the map feature with CCTV cameras.
Twitter user @narendramodi177 posted: “Google maps expert Akhilesh, Sundar Pichai must be thinking: I didn’t know Google Map is capable of this #GoogleMaps”
Vikas Dubey, the main accused in India's Kanpur Encounter case, in which a group of assailants allegedly opened fire on a police team, was killed on Friday morning. According to an earlier Gulf News report, he died after being critically injured in an alleged shootout with STF officials. He was shot when he reportedly tried to flee, following a road accident in which the vehicle he was travelling in overturned.
