Congress chief faces trial for criminal misconduct
Kripashankar's family also implicated
Mumbai: In a major setback for Congress, Bombay High Court yesterday directed the police to prosecute Mumbai unit chief Kripashankar Singh for "criminal misconduct" under the Prevention of Corruption Act and attach his "immovable" properties.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Roshan Dalvi asked Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik to obtain sanction from the state government to prosecute Singh for criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The judges also directed Patnaik to muster documentary evidence regarding all movable and immovable properties of Kripashankar and his family, including his wife Malti Devi, son Narendra Mohan Singh and daughter-in-law Ankita, thus indicating they would also be prosecuted in the case for abetting the crime.
"The immovable properties of Kripashankar shall be attached. We do not want to pass any directions regarding the bank accounts of the respondents as it is alleged the money might have been washed out," the court said.
The high court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by a social activist seeking a probe by the Special Investigation Team into allegations Singh and his family members had amassed "huge unaccounted wealth" over the years.
