Dubai: XPRESS has launched its Abu Dhabi edition. The popular tabloid aims to fill the obvious need for a community newspaper in the capital.

Packed with local news and features, the first Abu Dhabi edition of XPRESS will appear on the news stands on March 14, which also marks the tabloid newspaper’s sixth anniversary.

Like the Dubai edition, XPRESS will be distributed free of charge and will be available across key commercial and residential areas in Abu Dhabi.

Abdul Hamid Ahmed, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf News and XPRESS and Executive Director Publications, Al Nisr Publishing LLC, said the expansion was a “natural step” given the newspaper’s overwhelming success in Dubai.

“For six years, XPRESS has been going beyond the obvious, providing in-depth coverage on issues that matter most to residents in Dubai. This focus is now being widened to Abu Dhabi,” he said.

Duleep George, Executive Director – Strategy and Marketing, Al Nisr Publishing LLC said: “With its focus on local issues, human interest stories and its fearless reporting, XPRESS has firmly established itself in Dubai as the favourite weekly newspaper. To fulfill the similar needs of readers in the capital and in order to give them a weekly read with more local focus and flavour, XPRESS will now have an Abu Dhabi edition. We are sure that the Abu Dhabi edition will have an enthusiastic welcome and, in turn, give us the impetus to give our readers much more,” he added.

Editor Bobby Naqvi said the Abu Dhabi edition of XPRESS will continue to focus on community issues, civic concerns and human interest stories in addition to a liberal dose of lifestyle, entertainment and local sports.

“Our values remain fundamentally unchanged: to keep an eye on what goes on in the city, to bring readers the news they need to know,” said Naqvi, adding that the new Abu Dhabi edition will expand the newspapers’ existing loyal readership in the capital.

The Abu Dhabi edition of XPRESS has 24 pages focusing on news, entertainment, sports and leisure, including a listing of up-coming events.

Launched in March 2007, XPRESS has built a solid reputation as a “people’s paper” with a strong emphasis on human interest and investigative stories. It is now pushing a combined circulation figure of 80,000 copies with the launching of the Abu Dhabi edition.
