Abu Dhabi: After its highly successful debut last year, which saw over 80,000 people enjoying diverse entertainment programmes, the World of Music, Art and Dance (Womad) Festival is back.

The festival, which will run from April 22 until April 24 in Abu Dhabi, and from April 22 to April 23 in Al Ain, will boast 13 artists in the first two days alone.

The final line-up of artists will be announced at a later date, it was revealed at a press briefing on Sunday.

"This session is crowning the relentless efforts to reinforce the interest of people [living] in Abu Dhabi in arts, especially after the [great] success and popularity of last year's festival," said Abdullah Al Ameri, Director of Arts and Culture, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach).

"Also, Womad and Adach have signed a three-year contract that will help build a long-lasting relationship between artists and their audience in Abu Dhabi," he added.

The free concerts are not the only thing that members of the public can enjoy. There will also be interactive activities where Womad artists will entertain visitors with a variety of music, dance and creative workshops, as well as cooking displays from their home countries for Taste the World.

Additionally, Adach and Womad's Beyond project will return with a programme of "creative learning" whereby artists from Abu Dhabi and around the world will introduce music, vocals, percussion and the visual arts to young people.

"I'm very happy to be a part of Womad this year… I always follow news about such events in the region and this festival shows that Abu Dhabi is committed to building up its reputation as an art and culture centre.

"I can't wait to come back and perform for everyone on Womad's opening night!" Hakim, the renowned Egyptian singer, said, with a smile.
