Temperature hits 48°C; forecasters warn 'unbearable' weather conditions to continue

Al Ain: The comfort index has dropped considerably across the country over the past couple of days with high humidity and the temperature shooting up to 48 degrees Celsius.
“Take protective measures,” said weather forecasters, advising people to cut down on strenuous outdoor activities.
Conditions are harsh and the human body cannot withstand them, said a meteorologist at the national weather bureau. The mercury has been hovering between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius in much of the country.
“The afternoon conditions are unbearable in some coastal areas, though not much different from the rest of the country,” said the forecaster.
The maximum temperature in Dubai is expected to be around 40 degrees Celsius but it could feel much higher due to the high humidity, direct sunlight and other environmental conditions, he said.
Hot and hazy weather is expected to continue in general during the daytime, but it could get partly cloudy over some eastern areas with some towering clouds by the afternoon, according to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology forecast.
Light to moderate winds, fresh at times, may also blow dust and sand in some areas, reducing visibility. The sea will also be slight to moderately rough.
