Abu Dhabi: Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has been briefed about the electronic information data of the transport and traffic project.

The project will be implemented by 12 traffic patrols in Abu Dhabi, followed by the rest of the patrols in Al Ain and Western Region. It will be linked with the advanced electronic database at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi police.

Shaikh Saif lauded the programme, which analyses the traffic accident data and helps in setting policies to tackle them.

He said the project supports police work and helps reduce pressure on the operation room and save time.

The system uses a number of modern technologies such as the geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS), as well as methods to analyse and evaluate the performance of road networks.

Lieutenant Colonel Engineer Hussain Al Harithi said before the new programme was implemented, the existing accident information system was assessed including accident report forms, database and information of registered cars. Some patrol policemen have been trained on how to operate the system, which will help the teams concerned with gathering accident information.
