Five errant truckers get black points

Ras Al Khaimah: Five truck drivers have been caught driving dangerously and fined Dh800 and 24 black points were registered under the new scheme.

Colonel Nasser Muradad, who heads the Traffic Department, said the truckers were caught during various times of the day and according to Article 11 of the black points scheme, the vehicles will be seized for 60 days.

He said the Traffic and Licensing Department implemented the new black points system on March 1.

Colonel Muradad said the new scheme aims at reducing traffic accidents and traffic offences and will be extremely strict with putting the new system into effect.

Traffic patrols also caught two motorists driving without a licence.

Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Al Jeeda, head of the Licensing Department, said the two will face court. He added that the penalty for the violation is either a three-month jail term or a fine of Dh5,000 or both.
