Salik offenders will not get away with manipulation, warns RTA

Dubai: They could take a while to arrive, but Salik fines are certainly coming, a senior official said.

“No one can escape Salik toll fines in case of any violations but we are taking our time to ensure that no one is wrongly fined,'' said Engineer Salah Al Marzouqi, Director of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Responding to a Gulf News report on the toll system, Al Marzouqi, who also supervised Salik, clarified that motorists without Salik tags using the toll gates will ultimately get fines if they have not got yet.

“Those who have committed Salik violations should not think that they will get away with it. Fines are on the way but we are posting them to the traffic violation section only after completing careful quality control procedures. It is initially taking some time,'' he said.

“If the system does not read the Salik tag for any reason, we check the record from the car's registration plate. A toll fee is deducted if the vehicle has a tag ... but a fine is imposed in case of any manipulation or if the car does not have a tag at all,'' Al Marzouqi said.

I have not paid twice. Both times because no tags were available at the filling stations and there is no toll gate to pay at. Why should I be fined because of the poor system in use?

Already smooth implementation of Sailk had failed. Its another blow to this system.Well Planned Is Half-Done.I don't think this much high trafic can be monitored by this way.

We purchased 29 Salik Tags for our company fleet during the first week of July. For 19 vehicles out 29 we received account numbers and for the remaining we did not. We are thoroughly confused. We have been using the Salik gates since its implementation and we do not know where we stand in terms of our balance/fines for those 10 vehicles. We wrote several emails to Salik and one to RTA but unfortunately received no response. I wonder what action RTA is going to take in our case if there is a fine.

The point of a toll gate system in the rest of the world is to cut down traffic flow and disperse it. What major traffic flow does any road in Dubai have after 11 or 12pm until approx 7am in the morning?

RTA should give some concession to frequent/daily user. Mainly we/common man suffering for this additional charge.

If they have to check every car passing the Salik gates then either it will take 100 years or 10,000+ employees in the department.

There should be time limit for the RTA to impose fines. One should never be fined after two or three months.

Every person should get an SMS as soon as he cross the Toll Gate, It will confirm that he paid the money as a proof which can be used to face any problems from traffic dept.
