Dubai Roads and Transport Authority-sponsored foundation to promote public transport internationally
Dubai: Participating in the 60th International Association of Public Transport (UITP) Congress and Exhibition in Geneva, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched Youth For Public Transport Foundation (Y4PT).
Launching the initiative, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA along with Alain Flausch, UITP Secretary General, hailed the collaboration with UITP and highlighted the importance of the initiative in promoting public transport.
Y4PT is non-profit organisation, sponsored by RTA and affiliated to the UITP, with Head Office in Belgium. Comprising 40 young individuals, 19 of whom from the UAE, The foundation who will act as a platform to support public transport and its members will act as ambassadors of mass transit systems across the world.
RTA has become the first Honorary Member of the Foundation and Al Tayer was delighted with the launch of this youth foundation.
“We hope the Y4PT initiative will contribute to building a global ecosystem of young leaders, who share common values, have the hard skills to produce results, and possess a deep commitment to creating a more inclusive world. Our foundation comprises a host of ambassadors who are deeply committed volunteers, learning and spreading Y4PT principles on Public Transport; which is the same Mission we are seeking to achieve in the public Transport Mission,” said Al Tayer.
The 60th UITP congress and exhibition will continue till Wednesday. The event is held biannually and considered a showpiece event for public transport industry, attracting 150 delegates from 30 countries including the UAE. An accompanying Exhibition is being held during the event spanning 30 thousand square metres area where 252 firms and entities exhibit their products and services.
RTA) has set up a large stand to highlight the public transport systems in Dubai and depict the growth of public transport sector in the Emirate.
The RTA delegation to the congress is headed by Al Tayer and include senior officials of the organisation.
