Drink driving: Hefty fine for Dubai motorist

Dubai: A driver who opened the door of a pick-up truck and accidentally hit another vehicle was fined Dh20,000. The 26-year-old Pakistani worker will have to pay the fine for driving under the influence of liquor.

The rear door of the vehicle accidentally opened and hit another vehicle.

Presiding Judge Omar Abdul Aziz Karmastaji of Dubai Traffic Court of First Instance held the worker, M.A., responsible for the accidental opening of the rear door "because he left it improperly closed".

The Traffic Public Prosecution charged M.A. with reckless driving after drinking alcohol. He was also charged with failing to close the back door properly.

The court also fined him Dh500 for driving without a licence and awarded him another Dh500 fine for driving the pickup without its owner's consent or knowledge.
