Sweet pearls for all

DUBAI: Ramadan nights just aren't the same without regular doses of sugary sweetness. Rarely does a get-together go past without indulging in some after-dinner sweets.

And what's indulgence without the greatest indulgence of them all: a perfectly made macaroon to suit the mood? To celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, French chocolatiers Forrey & Galland have come out with a special Ramadan collection of cardamom flavoured macaroons, Pearls of Ramadan cookies and the French favourite Tuilles.

Sitting in the VIP tasting room of the store's Dubai Mall boutique, I was delighted: An array of freshly prepared macaroons, biscuits and chocolates laid out before me, all for my tasting pleasure. Pouncing upon the macaroons, I was delighted to notice the obvious. The sweet floral taste of the cardamom hits you at first bite, with the chocolate cream adding a second layer to your palate, while the sweetness of the cookie dough finishes off your experience.

"Since cardamom is a commonly used flavour in the UAE, we decided to pay tribute to this spice with our Ramadan macaroons," says Rami Shibany, Boutique Manager of Forrey & Galland.

Moving on to the Pearls of Ramadan collection, it was the look of the little rounded balls of date-filled goodness that roped me in. Available in pistachio, rose, orange, lemon and date, the Pearls have a French cookie base and are stuffed with a flavoured date paste.

With offerings this tempting, there's no reason not to sweeten your Ramadan nights.
