Server glitch hits labour ministry's transactions
Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Labour has been facing some problems with the server in the new building but the problem will be solved by today, according to a ministry official.
Obaid Rashid Al Zahmi, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Labour, told Gulf News the computer system the ministry uses has become very slow due to the large number of users.
"It did not stop the work flow, it just made it slower. The problem is affecting the entire emirates," he said.
New premises
"We are hoping by tomorrow the problem will be solved and everything will get back to normal," he added.
The ministry moved into a new premises in Al Qurm Corniche on Sunday.
Applicants who came to the new ministry building were told their transactions will not be processed due to a malfunction in the system. "They told us the system was down but they did not say when it will be fixed," said one of the workers.
However, Al Zahmi added that the ministry will only receive employers or representatives regarding work permits transactions.
Complaints
"We want to eliminate the problems that have been going on; we want the employer to take care of his establishment and employees and we want him or his representative to be the ones following up with the ministry," he added.
Workers who have complaints can still go to the complaint and dispute department that is in the old location of the ministry in Al Bateen, explained Al Zahmi.
