Dubai: Noor Ali Rashid, commonly known as the royal photographer, is recovering at a hospital in Abu Dhabi after successful heart surgery.

According to a family member, Rashid underwent an heart bypass operation last Tuesday after he was taken to the hospital with minor chest pain. "The operation has been successful and he is recovering well," he added and thanked all well-wishers.

"He is being provided with the best medical care and we thank the hospital and the authorities for taking good care of him," said the family member.

Rashid, 78, moved to Dubai in 1958 and continued his career as a professional photographer. He is one of the most well known photographers in the UAE and has a lot of awards to his credit. He has also won the UAE's Photographer of the Millennium award.

During his 57-year career as a photojournalist, he has documented the growth of the UAE and has rare collection of pictures.

Named the "Royal Photographer" by Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, he has been photographer for the royal families in the seven emirates.

"I pray to Allah that he should get well soon and again start shooting because it is his passion," said Zaheer Haider, a photographer, who's been Rashid's friend for the last 25 years.
