Protesting labourers demand salary increase
Sharjah: More than 290 workers protested at their labour accommodation in Sharjah in demand of a salary increase on Wednesday morning, said a police source.
Workers of a construction company protested at their labour accommodation in the fifth industrial area in Sharjah around 8 am.
Sharjah Police patrols rushed to the scene to prevent workers from taking to the streets and stopping the traffic.
Ayman Radwan, a legal advisor at the ministry of labour, said the workers had recently submitted a complaint against their company to the ministry office in Sharjah.
"The ministry officials met with company representatives, following the complaint, and secured to the worker a Dh 200 food allowance, health insurance and a annual ticket home," said Radwan.
