Pink Floyd legend's guitar to be auctioned for charity

Dubai: A bass guitar donated and signed by Roger Waters will be auctioned for charity before the Pink Floyd legend's concert in Dubai next month.

The money raised by auctioning the black Fender Precision Bass will be given to the United Nations Foundation's campaign to eradicate malaria.

Waters, the man behind classic Pink Floyd albums The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, is playing at Dubai Media City on Feb-ruary 21.

Padma Coram from The Talent Brokers, who are organising the show, said it was likely the bass guitar would be auctioned live on radio a few days before the concert.

"We'll take the highest bidder backstage so they can meet Roger Waters when he signs the guitar. We'll make a cheque out to the United Nations Foundation then," she said.

Coram said that the money was going to a very good cause, adding: "It is quite astonishing ... the number of people who die of malaria."

She added that 15,000 people were expected at Waters' show, which comes five years after he last played in Dubai.

The equipment for Waters' show is being flown in on an Antonov aircraft, while Waters himself will jet in by private aircraft.
