Part-time work permits for youngsters

Abu Dhabi: Young residents, sponsored by their relatives or universities, will soon be allowed to work part-time, the labour minister said yesterday.

"Residents between 15 and 18 years of age sponsored either by their relatives or educational institutions will be granted work permits to take up part-time jobs," Dr Ali Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour, told Gulf News.

These permits, he said, will allow them to work until they reach 18 years. They will be allowed to work up to 4 hours a day.

The decision will create tens of thousands of jobs, he added.
