Official says Salik website gets one million hits daily

Dubai: Salik's website is receiving one million hits daily, an official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said.

Salah Al Marzouqi, Deputy Director of the Traffic Department at the RTA, yesterday told Gulf News that they are going to increase the capacity of Salik.ae and soon it will function faster.

He said the website has been receiving a million hits daily which is a massive load. Al Marzouqi was speaking during an open discussion between the RTA and car rental companies regarding Salik.

The RTA had organised a workshop about the electronic system for car rental companies.

Al Marzouqi said car rental companies will have a special hotline number to inquire about Salik, which will be sent to their email addresses, but will not be announced to the public.

He said due to the urgency of transactions by car rental companies, the RTA has allocated a specific number to help companies avoid a long wait on the hotline.

Al Marzouqi also answered a number of queries from representatives of car rental companies. He said if a company has one traffic file, it can register a fleet of cars under that one file. The company can check the fines on each car by using the car plate number.

Workshop

Shehab Hamad Bu Shehab, Deputy Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the RTA, said the workshop was conducted to review the decree issued in 2005 about the importance of using an electronic system to store the information of customers, cars and traffic fines.

He said it is obligatory for car rental companies to use the electronic system, otherwise they are subject to fines.

The electronic system is connected to a number of government departments such as Dubai Police and the RTA.

Bu Shehab said the workshop was organised to encourage those car rental companies who have not yet installed the electronic system to install it and the best ways of using the system, as some of the companies were not using it while others were misusing it.

Traffic at Bani Yas interchange diverted

Traffic at the Bani Yas interchange will be diverted from today until December 2009 due to construction work on the Green Line of Dubai Metro, said the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Right of Way Services Department of Traffic and Roads Agency, said according to the new diversion, road users in Bani Yas area, who are driving northwards are required to turn left on to Al Burj Road and again take a left turn on to the Al Musalla Road.

Motorists heading southwards are required to turn right on to Al Burj Road, then take a left turn that runs behind the Bani Yas Square and then take another left turn towards Al Maktoum Road.
