Naif souq workers receive relief packages after fire
Dubai: The Red Crescent branch in Dubai on Tuesday distributed Dh1,000 each to about 300 workers who lost their livelihood in the fire that gutted Naif souq on April 2.
This was done under the directives of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).
"The number of workers who were affected by the fire was well over 600. Right now we have about 300 workers gathered over here. But those who have not received the relief package today can come and collect it from our office in Al Qusais after they get a letter from the Indian consulate. They can come anytime. The relief money was personally contributed by Shaikh Hamdan. The RCA is for everyone irrespective of nationalities," said Mohammad Abdullah Alhaj Al Zarouni, manager of Red Crescent, Dubai branch.
He said that the RCA is also willing to sponsor education for the children of these workers who are unable to continue their education back home.
